Civil Law, in all its complexity, is of fundamental importance to the Portuguese legal system. Whilst strictly civil law issues are addressed in the Civil Code, civil law underpins the entire legal system.
This has therefore been one of the firm’s prime areas of practice, and all the firm’s lawyers are thoroughly versed and experienced in all civil law issues, particularly in the law of obligations (contract, civil contractual liability and tort, as well as other areas), property law, family law and inheritance law. The fields of Family and Inheritance Law, despite being fields of Civil Law, are, nonetheless, separate practice areas.
