Career

Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, from the 1988/1989 to the 2001/2002 academic year, lecturing the following subjects: Introduction to the Study of Law (1989/90); Commercial Law (1988/89 to 1992/3, and 2001/2); Law of Obligations (1993/4 and 1994/5); General Theory of Civil Law (1995/6); and Family and Inheritance Law (1996/7 to 2000/2001, holding the chair of every subject.

Paulo de Almeida was also a Lecturer in the following Postgraduate Courses: Specialization Course on Legal Advice to Corporations at JOFOR, Commercial Corporations (1994 to 1996); Commercial Corporations - Current Issues in Company Law II -, Faculty of Law of the Portuguese Catholic University, Lisbon (1998); Further Higher Learning Course on Securities’ Law, Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon and the Securities’ Institute - lecturing the subject of “Civil Liability in Securities’ Law, in particular for information contained in the prospectus” (1998); Advanced Higher Learning Course on Securities Law, Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon and the Securities’ Institute - on the subject of: “Articulating the Legal Regime of Open Companies in the Securities’ Code with the Companies’ Code” (2000/2001).

Member of the Portuguese Bar Association since 1990 (Professional License No. 8748L).

Began practicing law with José Dias Marques, Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, from 1988 to 1998.

In 1998, Paulo went on to establish Paulo de Almeida & Associados or PA&A, in association with Miguel Alcobia.

Paulo de Almeida has written several Legal Opinions in partnership with Professor José Dias Marques and Professor Oliveira Ascensão.

Main practice areas: Law of Contracts, Commercial law, Corporate Law, Banking Law, Securities, Tax Law, Real Estate, Family and Inheritance Law, and with extensive experience in Litigation and Arbitration.
